PayU

A global payment processor with a South African operation, positioned at enterprise and cross-border merchants. It publishes no commercial terms of any kind, so we cannot rank it or model what it costs.

Why there are no figures on this page

PayU publishes no rates, no fees and no pricing terms for South Africa anywhere we could find. payu.co.za returns a 404, and the corporate South African page carries no commercial terms at all, not even a statement of how pricing is determined. Its global fees-by-country page covers Colombia, Peru and Chile only. Third-party claims of "about 2%" circulate, but they are hearsay with no primary source, and we will not publish them.

Strengths

  • A genuinely global processor, so a merchant already selling across several PayU markets may find one relationship simpler than several.
  • Positioned at enterprise and pan-African volumes, where bespoke pricing is normal and published rate cards would not apply anyway.

Watch-outs

  • No published pricing of any kind for South Africa. You cannot compare PayU against anything without contacting it first.
  • payu.co.za returns a 404, and the corporate page carries no commercial terms, not even a stated basis for pricing.
  • Because nothing is published, nothing here is verifiable, and no figure on this page can carry a verified badge.
  • Widely repeated third-party rate claims have no primary source. Treat any number you see quoted for PayU South Africa with suspicion.

For developers

Integration and API.

PayU’s South African presence is a corporate page rather than a product site. There is no public developer documentation, no sandbox we could reach, and no integration guide of the kind every other provider on this list publishes.

That is a legitimate way to run an enterprise sales motion, and it is common among processors whose customers are all negotiating bespoke terms. But it means this profile cannot do what the other seven do. We can tell you that PayU operates here and that it targets enterprise and cross-border merchants. We cannot tell you what it charges, how it settles, or how it compares, because PayU does not say.

If you are evaluating PayU, treat the sales conversation as the only source of terms, get everything in writing, and compare the quote against the published rates on this site rather than against another quote.

Licence and status

PayU publishes no licence status, PCI level or acquiring-sponsor detail for its South African operation that we could verify, consistent with the absence of any other commercial detail.

A R650,00 average basket, R150 000,00 a month, 3% refunded, 4 payout runs a month, incl 15% VAT. Quote-based providers are absent from this table because they publish no rate to compute, not because they were excluded. Card rails carry a chargeback provision of R120 per chargeback, which is an editorial assumption, not a sourced figure: no provider on this site publishes a chargeback penalty amount.
